Exceptional batting performance by the home team. They won the toss on Day 1 and adopted a slow approach initially. Runs were hard to come by but they stuck around and concentrated on forming partnerships. Debutant Shadman Islam was the star yesterday as he impressed everyone with his composure and shot selection.
The hosts switched gears this morning and then started to score briskly. Shakib started it all and Liton Das took it forward. Amidst all this, Mahmudullah held one end and anchored the innings with a hard-fought century. He was involved in quite a few handy stands and the best one was his 111-run association with the skipper. The efforts of the lower order cannot be undermined either as they helped in taking the total past the 500-run mark.
Windies' bowling was not up to the mark. They did bowl well in patches but never created enough pressure. Kemar Roach was the pick of the bowlers as he tested the batsmen with his pace and accuracy. Their spinners, although picked late wickets, were a major disappointment on a helpful deck. Now, they have a big first innings total in front of them and will have to bat out of their skin against the army of Bangladesh spinners.
