India have won the third T20 match played in Hamilton in a superover. Winning three consecutive matches in the five-match T20 series, Virat Kohli not only made an unassailable 3-0 lead in the series but also created history in New Zealand. Now is the first time the Indian cricket team has won a T20 series in New Zealand.
In this match, Team India batted first and scored 179 for five in 20 overs on the basis of Rohit Sharma's half-century innings. New Zealand had set a target of 180 for victory and host team captain Kane Williamson brought the team closer to victory on his 95-run knock, but when New Zealand scored one run on the last ball of the innings was needed then Shami dismissed Ross Taylor to extend the match to a super over.
In the super over, New Zealand scored 17 runs and gave India a target of 18 runs to win and Rohit Sharma gave the team India the victory by hitting two sixes in the last two balls of this super over. Prior to Virat, no Indian captain had won the T20 series on New Zealand soil under his captaincy and this happened for the first time. Under the captaincy of Virat, the Indian team also managed to win the Test series in Australia last year.
